XREAL Aura places its main Android XR computer, battery and storage in a separate puck. The glasses handle optics, sensing and low-latency spatial processing. Snap SPECS put the compute and battery into a fully standalone frame. That single distinction affects weight, portability, app compatibility, battery expectations and the kind of buyer each product suits.

The UNKNOWN entries matter. A product page can be detailed without answering the practical questions that decide whether glasses stay on your face. XREAL has not published the glasses weight or a claimed runtime. Snap has not published battery capacity, runtime, display resolution or refresh rate. Architecture: puck versus standalone glasses
Aura splits the workload between an X1S spatial coprocessor in the glasses and a Snapdragon Reality Elite platform in the puck. XREAL lists 12GB with 256GB and 16GB with 512GB configurations. The puck contains the battery, fingerprint button, wireless connectivity, touchpad and ports. It connects to the glasses by cable.
That cable is a compromise, but the puck removes heat, battery mass and much of the compute from the frame. It also gives Aura a second USB-C port for charging or DP input. A laptop, PC or compatible handheld can therefore feed Aura as a display while Android XR supplies standalone applications through the puck.
SPECS make the opposite bet. Snap advertises dual Snapdragon processors inside the frame, no puck and no tether for ordinary use. The glasses can use a magnetic charging cable or a USB-C streaming cable, but the core product is self-contained. Voice and hand gestures replace a puck touchpad or dedicated controller.
Standalone sounds cleaner until weight enters the equation. The narrow SPECS frame weighs 132 grams and the wide one 136 grams. That is much heavier than ordinary eyewear. Snap calls the TR90 construction comfort-focused, but material choice does not settle pressure on the nose, temples or ears after several hours. Aura’s glasses weight remains unpublished, so its comfort advantage cannot yet be quantified.
Display: wider Aura view, incomplete SPECS detail
Aura has the stronger published display specification. XREAL lists a 70 degree optical see-through field of view, Sony Micro-OLED panels at 1920 x 1200 pixels per eye, and refresh rates up to 120 Hz. Five electrochromic dimming levels can trade environmental visibility for contrast.
SPECS use a proprietary liquid crystal on silicon display and transparent waveguide with 16 million colors. Snap publishes a 51 degree field of view and compares the apparent display to a 115-inch screen viewed from about ten feet away. It does not publish the pixel resolution or refresh rate on the consumer product page.
Field of view is not the same as image quality. A wider display can expose blur, color nonuniformity and optical artifacts more readily. A narrower display can still look sharper if its resolution and optics are better. Until independent testers measure clarity across the eyebox, neither vendor’s display description proves a better real-world image.

Apps and AI: Android XR versus Snap OS
Aura’s largest advantage is software breadth. XREAL says Android XR brings Google Play applications including Maps, YouTube, Gemini, Chrome and Photos, plus more than 100 XR-specific apps. Gemini can respond to voice and, with permission, use screen and environmental context. Android XR and WebXR also give developers a platform that extends beyond one eyewear company.
SPECS use Snap OS and applications built as Lenses. Snap demonstrates navigation, translation, measurements, timers, communications, entertainment and shared AR. Lens Studio is a mature creation environment, and Snap has spent years distributing AR experiences. The consumer SPECS catalog is still a new platform, however. A Lens ecosystem is not interchangeable with the general Android app catalog.
Developers should ask what they need to ship. Aura is the more natural target for Android XR work, spatial productivity and applications tied to Google services. Cameras, sensors and privacy
Both products need outward-facing sensing for hand tracking and spatial anchoring. Aura lists two world-facing tracking cameras plus a separate high-resolution camera with a privacy LED. SPECS advertise camera controls, a visible recording indicator and an on-device processing emphasis, but the consumer specification does not disclose an exact camera or sensor inventory.
A light is useful, not a complete privacy system. It does not explain retention, cloud processing, third-party app access or how bystanders can interpret different sensing states. Android XR permissions and Snap OS permissions also create different developer responsibilities. Buyers should read current platform policies rather than assuming standalone processing means data never leaves the device.

Battery and everyday use
XREAL publishes the puck battery as 4,455 mAh and 34.84 Wh, with charging up to 65W. Snap supplies a built-in battery and charging case. Neither vendor publishes a clear production runtime for the consumer configuration on the pages reviewed.
That means battery comparisons are currently speculative. Aura can carry a larger battery away from the face and supports charging through its second port, but it must also power the puck and glasses. SPECS avoid the cable but place the energy and thermal budget in the frame. A charging case extends total time away from an outlet, not uninterrupted time on one charge.
The useful future tests are obvious: continuous display playback, mixed AI and navigation use, standby drain, recharge time, thermal throttling and whether external power works during demanding sessions. Vendor phrases such as “real-world sessions” do not replace those measurements.
Price and total cost of ownership
Snap lists SPECS at $2,195 in the United States. They include a charging case, charging cable, cleaning cloth, quick-start guide and nose pad kit. Prescription inserts are made by a third-party partner and priced separately. Snap lists pre-order availability in the US, UK and France.
XREAL says Aura’s final US retail price will be no more than $1,500 before tax. Its reservation programs use deposits or launch credits, not a final open retail transaction. The official page shows 256GB and 512GB puck configurations but does not publish separate final prices for them.
Aura therefore has the lower official price ceiling, but a ceiling is not a complete price list. Prescription hardware, storage tier, accessories, replacement cables and regional taxes remain potential costs. SPECS buyers also need to budget prescription inserts and possibly an extra charging or streaming setup.
Neither company clearly lists a mandatory consumer software subscription for the core product on the reviewed pages. That should not be read as a guarantee that every AI, cloud or third-party app feature is free forever. Aura is the stronger fit for someone who wants a portable Android XR computer, a broad app catalog and a large spatial display. It makes particular sense for developers building Android XR or WebXR software, travelers who want a private screen, and professionals who value DP input from an existing computer.
Do not choose Aura if a cable and pocket puck defeat the purpose of smart glasses for you. Also wait if frame weight, final regional price or tested runtime is decisive. Those facts remain unresolved.
Who should choose Snap SPECS?
SPECS suit buyers who value standalone use, hand and voice interaction, Snap’s Lens ecosystem and a product designed around situational AR rather than a separate pocket computer. Prescription support is also described more clearly than Aura’s current prescription path.
Do not choose SPECS because “standalone” sounds automatically comfortable. A 132 to 136 gram frame is substantial, and official runtime remains unpublished. The $2,195 price is also high for a new consumer platform whose app depth and long-term support have not yet been demonstrated at retail scale.

XREAL Aura is the more versatile spatial computing system on paper. It has the wider display, clearer display specification, Android XR, Google Play, Gemini, published storage choices and DP input.
